MONTVALE, N.J.-Geotek Communications Inc. said it plans to create a telecommunications equipment company to develop, manufacture, market and license advanced communications systems and products based on its Frequency Hopping Multiple Access digital technology.
Geotek said it will sell FHMA-based infrastructure, terminals and software applications to mobile radio network operators worldwide. The company estimates that Geotek-related FHMA equipment revenues will be about $400 million during the next five years.
The new company, formerly a division of Geotek, will be headquartered in Montvale, N.J. Geotek said it plans to integrate its research and development, production and manufacturing and mobile data subsidiaries PowerSpectrum Technology, GMSI and MIS into the new company.
Analysts estimate the worldwide market for land mobile radio equipment will grow from $3.5 billion in 1996 to $6 billion by the year 2000.
“Geotek is uniquely positioned to seize a significant portion of this growing mobile business equipment market,” said Yaron Eitan, Geotek president and chief executive officer.
