CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Glenayre Technologies Inc. said it is working with the Chinese Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, various MPT design institutes, the Research Institute of Telecommunications Transmission and the Mobile Communications Bureau in China to help establish the country’s national standard for interswitch paging networking communications.
Glenayre is supplying its WMtp networking protocol, based on TCP/IP technology. The technology supports a number of paging and advanced messaging protocols including the FLEX family.
WMtp supports both one-way and two-way messaging, operator-assisted paging systems, alphanumeric input platforms and voice messaging and retrieval equipment, said Glenayre.
Motorola Inc. also has been assisting China in establishing a national standard for interswitch paging, supplying its Wireless Interswitch Protocol.
Glenayre said close cooperation in China is important because the new interpaging network will “be one of the world’s largest and standardization will ensure complete compatibility with all vendors’ equipment.”
