Preferred Networks Inc. said it has signed an agreement with NationsBank for a $20 million revolving credit facility. The money will be used primarily to finance the acquisition of paging networks and capital expenditures for the company’s nationwide network construction, said Atlanta-based Preferred.
Carlson Design/Construct Corp., a design and construction firm, has formed a new affiliate company called Carlson Technologies Inc., which will focus on providing design and construction services for the telecommunications industry. CTI said it has experienced significant growth in the past five months. It has provided various services to NextWave Telecom Inc. and Qualcomm Inc.
Allen Telecom Group has named Sales Associates Inc., based in Minneapolis, a manufacturer representative for ATG’s Antenna Specialists and Decibel Products divisions. Sales Associates’ territory will include North and South Dakota, Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The company will be responsible for Antenna Specialists’ mobile and fixed station antennas and for Decibel Products’ land mobile radio base station antennas and filter products.
AT&T Wireless Services Inc. has chosen Octel Communications Corp. to provide voice processing equipment for its voice mail services in its new 1900 MHz personal communications services licensed territories in the United States. AT&T Wireless operates in about 25 U.S. markets, and plans to introduce its new PCS services in early 1997. Through the purchase of three Octel Sierra voice processing systems, AT&T Wireless will be able to offer its PCS customers advanced features such as cellular phone answering, digital message waiting notification and enhanced paging services, said AT&T Wireless.
IFR Systems Inc. announced it has been awarded a one-year subcontract to supply retrofit kits to the U.S. Army to upgrade the IFR FM/AM-1600/J-1601s that are already in the field to the latest technical standards of the Sincgars System Improvement Program. IFR’s FM/AM-1600/J-1601s are used primarily for testing and maintaining specialized wireless communications systems used by the armed forces. Delivery of the retrofit kits is scheduled to begin later this year.
Wireless Access Inc. announced it has completed a sale of preferred stock to Motorola Inc. Motorola said the minority equity investment does not include any other interests in the company. With this purchase, Motorola joins other corporate partners in Wireless Access including Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp. and Telxon. “This is just one investment in many that Motorola has made to foster the adoption of the ReFLEX protocol as the worldwide standard for two-way wireless data messaging,” said Greg Reyes, president and chief executive officer of Wireless Access.
