ALEXANDRIA, Va.-The Personal Communications Industry Association has endorsed the EDR-Site Locator manufactured by EDR-Wireless Group, a division of EDR Inc. The EDR-Site Locator, a map-based database of nearly 1 million existing and potential wireless antenna sites, will be updated daily and maintained by EDR as an industry source for locating antenna sites.
The database was created in response to increasing demand for antenna sites. More than 500 sources are divided into five categories: antenna and tower sites, utility properties, industrial properties, commercial properties and public properties. Sites are further classified as qualified or non-qualified based on leasing interest expressed by the property owner.
The company said it expects buildouts will be accelerated as a result of the pre-screening to determine “friendly” sites with more accommodating landlords and zoning regulations.
Among the more than 500,000 sites included in the database are 100,000 existing antenna and tower sites, 30,000 utility properties, 150,000 commercial properties including more than 100,000 billboards, 50,000 industrial sites and 75,000 public properties.
The system is compatible with MapInfo, ArcInfo and other geographic information systems.
