SAN FRANCISCO-Allen Telecom Group President Erik van der Kaay announced at PCS ’96 that the company’s recent and pending acquisitions position the company as a leading global provider of a truly integrated and comprehensive line of telecommunications products and test equipment.
ATG’s planned acquisition of Signal Science Inc. will provide ATG with SSI’s signal analysis and characterization coupled with SSI’s wide-band digital capabilities, he said.
“When we marry SSI’s software and DSP (digital signal processor) technology in these areas with the engineering and manufacturing capabilities of ATG, we create a distinct advantage over other telecommunications equipment providers.” The technology patented by SSI will enable ATG to offer geolocation systems for enhanced 911 service providers, added van der Kaay.
ATG, founded in 1953 as Antenna Specialists Co., merged with Grayson Electronics in 1990 and Decibel Products Inc. in 1992 and purchased Forem S.p.A. in Italy and Mikom GmbH in Germany in 1994.
In May, ATG’s parent company, the Allen Group, acquired Tekmar Sistemi S.r.l. in Italy and in August announced plans to acquire Signal Science Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif.
The Tekmar acquisition gives ATG greater technological capabilities in the repeater and in-building antenna markets and provides access to Tekmar’s strong capabilities in fiber optic technology, said van der Kaay.
“These mergers and recent acquisitions allow us to bring together one of the most complete lines of products, services and support available to the global wireless communications industry,” said van der Kaay.
