CLEVELAND-Reltec Corp. obtained a $450 million senior credit facility provided by several financial institutions led by Chase Manhattan Bank. The company said it will use the facility to fund strategic growth initiatives targeted at the global communications market.
The facility replaces a previous $300 million credit facility obtained in connection with the 1995 purchase of Reltec from Rockwell International Corp. by management and the investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
Cellular One offers FaxView in stores
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-Cellular One said it is the only provider of Reflection Technology Inc.’s FaxView personal fax reader in its markets. The company will sell the product in its 13 retail locations in Arizona, Albuquerque, N.M., and El Paso, Texas.
FaxView, a palm-sized portable fax machine that weighs less than eight ounces, allows users to receive, read, store and send faxes and receive e-mail, the company said.
FaxView won the American Facsimile Association’s Best Mobile Fax Device of 1996 award.
Geotek introduces new fleet services
MONTVALE, N.J.-Geotek Communications Inc. introduced a Windows-based mobile fleet management service, designed for businesses needing real-time communications. The company said it offers digital voice and group dispatch, two-way messaging, vehicle location and mobile data solutions used for tracking inventory and monitoring job progress. Geotek plans to launch several new services by early next year including transaction authorization, paging alert and access to the Internet.
Airmail will offer Internet service
SAN ANTONIO, Texas-Airmail Communications said it will offer the “email2pager” service to Internet subscribers. The pager service provides e-mail notification and transfer to any alphanumeric or numeric pager in North America and some areas of Central and South America.
“Electronic mail over the Internet has rapidly become the message delivery method of choice for over 30 million computer users,” said Jim Sawyer, Airmail’s director of marketing. “The only thing that has slowed the speed of delivery to persons on the go is the need to periodically check your mailbox.”
Companies enter CDPD agreements
BEDMINSTER, N.J.-In two separate but similar Cellular Digital Packet Data intercarrier agreements, four companies have increased the number of markets available to their customers.
Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile and Ameritech Corp. signed a wireless data services intercarrier agreement to provide CDPD services to customers in their combined total of 30 cellular markets.
In addition, both companies said they have signed previous agreements with other CDPD carriers, bringing the total number of markets available to 70.
GTE Mobilnet Inc. and Vanguard Cellular Systems Inc. signed a similar agreement. Vanguard customers will have access to GTE’s markets in nine states, including the cities of San Francisco, Houston, Cleveland and Tampa, Fla. Vanguard serves Allentown, Harrisburg and Reading, Pa., and plans to deploy additional markets in 1997.
