HOUSTON-Castle Tower Corp. said it now owns 15 tower sites in the center ridge of Puerto Rico after acquiring the assets of Motorola Inc.’s Puerto Rico network services operations.
The acquisition was completed by Castle’s newly created International Acquisitions and Development division. Castle estimates Puerto Rico will need up to 200 shared cell sites over the next two years to meet the demands of a strong economy.
“Castle’s acquisition of Motorola’s sites in Puerto Rico is significant for two important reasons,” said Ted B. Miller Jr., the company’s president. “First, it puts us in a key position to help build and meet the infrastructure needs of Puerto Rico. And second, it represents a large step in our international business strategy of becoming a global provider by focusing on opportunities in Latin America, Asia and Europe.”
The tower sites are strategically located along Puerto Rico’s mountainous center ridge, Castle said. The company plans to seek alliances with wireless operators to build a shared site tower and monopole network.
