VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Abacus Communications L.P. has won the competitive bid to provide operator-assisted text messaging services to BellSouth Mobility DCS, the personal communications services arm of BellSouth Corp.
Abacus, which has operated telemessaging and other call center services for a decade, will handle BellSouth Mobility’s short message services from its call centers in Virginia Beach, Va., and San Antonio, Texas.
BellSouth Mobility DCS operates PCS networks in eastern Tennessee and in North Carolina and South Carolina with partners DukeNet and CaroNet, subsidiaries of Duke Power and Carolina Power and Light, respectively.
“With the short messaging service representing a new product for BellSouth Mobility DCS, it is particularly gratifying to be chosen as the exclusive provider,” commented Rick Clay, president and chief executive officer for Abacus.
Abacus provides clients telemessaging, inbound transaction center programs, customer care, product information and support and long-distance services, said the company. Abacus operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
