PRIMECO WILL GET GTE CLONE PRODUCT

TAMPA, Fla.-GTE Tele-communications Services Inc. has agreed to supply its CloneDetector system to PrimeCo Personal Communications. The agreement also calls for GTE Telecommunications Services to manage the maintenance and operation of the system’s software and hardware platforms.

The system identifies and minimizes fraudulent calls by monitoring unusual activity such as high call counts, calls to or from suspicious locations, simultaneous calls and calls at suspicious times of day, the company said.

The system will also protect PrimeCo customers when they begin roaming in 1997 with dual-mode phones in cellular markets using Advanced Mobile Phone Service systems.

“With the CloneDetector system, we’re confident that we can minimize our financial exposure to subscription and cloning fraud and, just as importantly, that we can protect our customers from the inconveniences caused by fraudulent activities,” said Donna Persing, vice president of customer operations for PrimeCo.

“Fraud continues to be a major concern for all wireless operators, and we’re committed to aggressively protecting PrimeCo and its customers as much as possible from unlawful activity on its network,” said Joy Nemita, assistant vice president of sales for GTE Telecommunications Services.
