FCC GIVES APPROVAL FOR CABLE SYSTEM

NASHUA, N.H.-The Federal Communications Commission granted type approval for a cable-based personal communications services system developed by Sanders, a Lockheed Martin company.

The system also has been approved by Underwriters Laboratories and Canadian Underwriters Laboratories.

Sanders said its PCS-over-cable system enables PCS providers to deploy a wireless network with less dependence on antenna towers. This is an advantage in communities that oppose new tower construction.

The system uses interconnecting cable microcell integrators and headend equipment connected to the wireline telephone network using a hybrid fiber coax cable television system.

The approvals mean the system has met authorized frequency transmission and safety standards for commercial sale.
