GTE MOBILNET SET TO SHARE TOWERS: CELLULAR ONE OFFERS PREPAID IN CAPITOL

ATLANTA-GTE Mobilnet Inc. said it will allow wireless competitors to lease space on several of its tower sites in Alabama, Texas, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, California, Illinois and New Mexico. Additional states will be added later, the company said.

The company signed an agreement with UniSite Inc. to manage collocation site services at more than 950 GTE tower sites. The agreement calls for UniSite to perform sales and marketing, engineering services, radio frequency interference analysis and site management services.

Cellular One offers prepaid in capitol

GREENBELT, Md.-Cellular One Washington/Baltimore began offering Cellular One-2-3, the company’s prepaid cellular service. The service is aimed at students, families on a tight budget and consumers with little or no credit history.

The service announces the account balance at the beginning and end of each outbound call. All local incoming calls are 75 cents per minute and are automatically deducted from the customer’s balance. Cellular One said the rate includes long distance calls made anywhere in the continental United States.

Service is available in $30 and $50 denominations. The package includes a Motorola Inc. TeleTac 250 portable phone and $50 of airtime for $149.
