CANNES, France-Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group introduced what it claims is the smallest and lightest digital microcellular base transceiver station at the GSM World Congress.
The M-Cellcity weighs 66 pounds. It is 28 inches high, 20 inches wide and less than eight inches deep, the company said. It can be mounted either on a pole or a wall and is designed for both indoor and outdoor applications.
M-Cellcity supports Global System for Mobile communications 900, Digital Cellular System 1800 and personal communications services 1900 technologies. It is designed to solve capacity problems where high subscriber density, or a “hot spot,” occurs. It also can be used to provide a microcellular underlay of contiguous coverage to relieve congestion on the macrocellular layer, the company said.
