GEORGETOWN, Guyana-Guyana Telephone & Telegraph said it launched the first fixed wireless access network in the Anna Regina area of the Caribbean.
The system uses Northern Telecom Ltd.’s Proximity product to supplement a rural analog switch, housed in an Anna Regina exchange, which was incapable of handling the volume of calls being generated. Nortel said it will supply as many as 2,000 Proximity lines to GT&T over the coming months.
Proximity offers services such as call transfer, conference calling, data and fax services, the company said.
