PriCellular Corp., a cellular-only carrier specializing in rural markets, breezed into the top spot from out of nowhere for its two-year total return on investment exceeding 130 percent.
Sprint Corp. pulled a second-place spot after a middle-of-the-chart ranking the prior year. Another mid-tier player, GTE Corp., edged in right behind it in third place. It was a role reversal for the two companies according to this criterion.
Ameritech Corp., which didn’t place among the major players in this category as published last year, came in at number four.
