HELSINKI, Finland-China Unicom Shanghai Branch designated Nokia Telecommunications the main base station subsystem supplier for the third phase of its Global System for Mobile communications network expansion in China.
Nokia will provide its PrimeSite base stations, base station controllers and network planning and installation services. Nokia values the contract at $10 million.
Nokia supplied equipment for the second phase of China Unicom’s GSM expansion in 1996. Once the third phase is completed, the network will have capacity to cover 150,000 subscribers in Shanghai.
