LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Alltel Corp. and PageMart Wireless Inc. announced a five-year strategic alliance that will allow Alltel to offer its customers PageMart’s numeric and text-based paging services.
Alltel is a wireless and wireline service provider that offers Internet access, wireless services, voice mail and local and long-distance services bundled on a single bill.
According to the agreement, Alltel will market PageMart’s services and products under its own name to its 2.5 million customers and will sell them through its retail stores and direct sales channels.
The alliance will allow the two companies to share infrastructure components as well. Alltel will use its existing voice mail platforms, local phone number inventories and transmission sites to connect to PageMart’s NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement)-wide network, dramatically increasing the paging coverage currently available to its customers. Alltel also plans to deploy additional transmitters to PageMart’s network in certain areas where PageMart’s coverage does not mirror Alltel’s cellular footprint, from which PageMart customers will benefit.
“For PageMart, it represents a complementary expansion of our already robust transmission network,” said Andrew Weisheit, director of strategic alliances for PageMart. “Additionally, it is in sync with PageMart’s long-term growth strategy of aligning with leading facilities-based telecommunications companies.”
