DULLES, Va.-Orbcomm Global L.P., a satellite data and messaging services provider, opened its global network control center as the first step in a 10-stage countdown program to the launch of its global communications services planned for the first quarter.
The center performs data processing and message switching and provides satellite control and global network management, said Orbcomm. As part of the countdown program, the company plans to launch additional low-earth-orbit satellites, complete a customer care and billing system and install international gateway earth stations.
“The dedication of Orbcomm’s NCC brings us significantly closer to our goal of providing near real-time global data and messaging communications to our customers from any point to any point on Earth,” said Alan Parker, president and chief executive officer of Orbcomm.”With the inauguration of the NCC, we have established the critical infrastructure required to control a full constellation of up to 36 satellites.”
