L.A. CELLULAR UNWRAPS PAYFIRST SERVICE

CERRITOS, Calif.-Los Angeles Cellular Telephone Co. introduced the PayFirst prepayment plan to its wireless subscribers.

Before each call, PayFirst sends a voice message that updates users on the number of prepaid minutes available. Users also can find out the number of minutes used after the call and their remaining account balance.

The service can be used with new or existing cellular handsets. Customers must buy a PayFirst Card for $50, $100 or $200 each. Subscribers can purchase additional cards as needed. Because it is a prepaid service, there are no contracts, monthly bills, service fees or credit checks, the company said. L.A. Cellular is a California general partnership consisting of BellSouth Cellular Corp. and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. with some 32,000 square miles of home calling area in Southern California.
