Cord Communications Inc. selected Mark E. Reed to be its president and chief executive officer. Reed joins Cord from In Focus Systems, a multimedia projection systems company, where he was senior vice president of worldwide sales, marketing and services and president and CEO of Genigraphics, a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. Reed announced new initiatives for Cord including building strategic alliances and expanding opportunities in domestic and international turnkey buildouts.

Lee Lam was named chief operating officer of Millicom International Cellular S.A.’s Asian business, Sanbao Telecom. Lam, who will be based in Singapore, will be responsible for day-to-day management of MIC’s cellular operations in Asia. Lam’s 18 years of experience in the telecommunications industry includes positions of chairman and chief executive officer of Pacific Star Communications Co. Ltd. and partner in charge for A.T. Kearney’s operations in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

Aspect Telecommunications, a call center solutions company, established three key management positions and opened new offices in Hong Kong and Singapore. Dirk Speas will transition from his role as vice president, international, to the newly created position of vice president of Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Lin Johnstone, who most recently was the company’s managing director of the United Kingdom, will assume the new position of vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa. David Parcell joins Aspect as managing director of the United Kingdom.

AirTouch Cellular appointed John Eakle to the position of branch director for its Salt Lake City market. He will be responsible for the region’s financial and sales performance, as well as overseeing marketing programs and network operations. Eakle joined AirTouch in 1989 as a sales representative in Provo, Utah. He has since held the positions of territory manager for Box Elder and Cache Counties in Utah, marketing manager in the Seattle area and branch manager in Salt Lake City.

Charles A. Barrera was named sector vice president of Latin America by Wireless Inc., which recently announced the opening of its Latin American Sector Headquarters in Mexico City. Barrera has more than 40 years of experience in microwave radio products sales. Most recently he was sector vice president of the Americas for Digital Microwave Corp.

Advanced Radio Telecom Corp. elected Henry C. Hirsch chairman, president and chief executive officer. Most recently, Hirsch was the vice chairman and CEO of Williams Communications Group, which provides businesses with end-to-end enterprise network solutions, services and advanced multimedia applications. Hirsch also served as president and chief operating officer of Williams Telecommunications Systems Inc., a nationwide systems integration company.

Barry Gillespie has been named market manager for the Wiregrass region in Alabama by BellSouth Mobility. He will be responsible for sales, business development and public relations in southeast Alabama. Gillespie has been with the company since 1991 and was most recently branch manager for east Alabama.

Ortel Corp. announced the promotion of Dr. P.C. Chen to vice president of laser technologies. He will be responsible for directing the company’s efforts in research and development of Ortel’s wafer fab while continuing his responsibilities in its broadband and digital device development.

Northern Telecom Inc. promoted Dr. Norman Kwong to vice president of technology, telecommunications division. He will oversee the company’s efforts in the evolution of its digital communications solutions and will report directly to Wim Selders, Nortel’s chief executive officer.

Bell Atlantic Mobile has appointed Julie Dobson president of its New York/New Jersey metro region. She replaces Rick Conrad, who recently was named executive vice president and chief operating officer at Bell Atlantic’s sister company in Texas, PrimeCo Personal Communications L.P. Dobson is responsible for sales, marketing, customer service and the continued expansion of the company’s wireless communications network in the region. She also will oversee a retail store network in 22 counties.

Metroplex Mobile Data Inc. appointed Thomas Morrow vice president of sales and marketing. He will be responsible for leading the sales and marketing efforts of the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based company. Morrow has 21 years experience in the land mobile and cellular switching products fields. He is the former owner of Tomorrow Communications.

Brian Cook has been named regional general manager for Alabama at Arch Southeast Communications Inc. He was formerly with American Communications Network Inc. where he was vice president of wireless services. Previously, Cook was vice president and national sales manager for the national commercial accounts division of Paging Network Inc.

Com Dev International Ltd. announced it hired John Okas to be managing director of its Phase Group business. He has more than 20 years of experience in the fixed and mobile telecom market. He will conduct his duties at the Phase Group head office in Dunstable, United Kingdom.
