ArrayComm Inc. announced that G. John Gruen III will fill the newly created position of director of corporate development. Gruen will be responsible for building and enhancing strategic partnerships and corporatealliances as well as developing pre-initial public offering strategies and communications for the privately held company. Prior to joining ArrayComm,
Gruen was managing director of J. Gruen & Associates, an Oakland-based firm that provided investor relations consulting services to pre-IPO and publicly traded companies. Gruen also has extensive international investor, marketing and business development experience in the natural resources and precision watch industries. ArrayComm, based in the Silicon Valley, Calif., provides adaptive wireless communications solutions, including its patented IntelliCell processing platform that combines digital signal processing technology with multiple-element antenna arrays to enhance wireless system performance.
Telecom Group Inc. has named George Lamplota national director of project management and construction. In his new position at PAL Telecom, Lamplota will oversee the wireless management personnel and construction staff. Lamplota brings over 25 years of experience to PAL Telecom Group, which provides turnkey services to help wireless service providers meet the needs of their subscribers.
WinStar announced that Charles T. Dickson will become WinStar’s new executive vice president and chief financial officer. Dickson will be replacing Fredric von Stange, a member of the founding management team, when he retires on Dec. 8. For the last four years, Dickson was CFO of NextLevel Systems Inc., a company providing equipment and services for advanced broadband networks. Dickson was also employed at MCI Communications Corp. from 1984 to 1993 as a senior financial executive, and in his last assignment with MCI he was vice president of finance and administration for the $2.4 billion National Accounts Division. In his new position, Dickson will report to Nathan Kantor, WinStar president, at the company’s corporate headquarters in New York. WinStar provides broadband local communication needs, wireless fiber services using its licenses in the 38 GHz spectrum, and long-distance and information services.
BellSouth Mobility has named William J. Withers general manager for personal communications services networks in Alabama and Northwest Florida. Withers will be responsible for the operations of the personal communications service networks in the Montgomery, Auburn, Opelika, Enterprise and Destin areas of Alabama, and the Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach areas in Florida. He will direct network development, sales, service, retail location development and human resource activities for the territory. Since joining the company in 1990, Withers has been director of sales, marketing, and public relations in the Mobile and South Alabama area, manager of indirect sales, marketing manager, product manager, and a retail marketing specialist.
Telecommunications Techniques Corp. appointed Gary Mayerick president of the company’s new Systems and Software Division. Mayerick brings more than 20 years of product development and management experience to the new division, which was formed to develop systems and software that improves the effectiveness of network installation and maintenance for communications providers. Mayerick previously was the general manager and chief operating officer of Sodalia S.p.A in Italy, a joint venture between Bell Atlantic Corp. and Telecom Italia.
Eric Pratt has joined InterVoice Inc. as the new vice president of telco sales. Pratt previously was the senior director of sales at DSC Communications Corp. Pratt has more than 10 years of management and sales experience in telecommunications, including switching, intelligent networks and transmission equipment. Pratt will work with telco customers to fit their needs with InterVoice’s new intelligent networking and call automation product line, IN Control. InterVoice manufactures telephone systems and equipment that are used at inbound and outbound call centers.
Bell Atlantic International Wireless has promoted Giancarlo Ferrero to vice president of corporate development and communications in Europe. Ferrero will be responsible for representing Bell Atlantic’s wireless portfolios with potential partners, key stake holders and the media in Europe. Before his new appointment, Ferrero was president of Bell Atlantic’s land-based investments in Italy and was responsible for developing strategic business alliances and stake holder relationships for Bell Atlantic in the Italian telecommunications market. He will continue to perform those duties in his new role. Ferrero joined Bell Atlantic in September 1990 and now has nearly 30 years of business experience and knowledge of European markets. He previously held numerous sales, marketing, planning and operational positions for multinational companies, last serving as head of IBM Corp’s Southern European Telecommunications Division. Bell Atlantic provides wireless and advanced wireline voice and data services, publishes directory information and invests in global communications markets.
Radio modem designer and manufacturer Dataradio named Ray Dees as the company’s new project manager. Dees previously worked for Ericsson Inc. as a major accounts manager and territory sales engineer. Dees’ more than 25 years of technical experience also includes working for the state of Georgia as a senior communications engineer for the Telecommunications Division. Dataradio also announced Gregory Wright is the company’s newest systems engineer. Wright has 10 years of design, trouble-shooting and implementation of communication systems experience. He has worked for E.F. Johnson Co., Ericsson General Electric Mobile Communications, Motorola Inc., and he was a sales and applications engineer for Tait Electronics Ltd. in New Zealand. Linda Williams joined Dataradio as the new administrative assistant to the engineering department.
Nancy H. Goguen will be the new vice president of marketing at Telogy Networks Inc., a provider of embedded communications software to global equipment manufacturers. Goguen will be responsible for product management.
