MICROCEL PCS TO USE NOKIA 9000I

ALAMEDA, Calif.-Microcell Solutions Inc. announced it will provide Nokia Mobile Phones’ 9000i Communicator smart phone to its subscribers in Canada.

Microcell is a Canadian personal communications services provider using Global System for Mobile communications technology at 1900 MHz. The wholly owned subsidiary of Microcell Telecommunications Inc., which itself is the PCS affiliate of Telesystem Ltd., said this is the first smart phone offered in the country.

The 9000i, using the GEOS operating system designed by Geoworks, combines voice, data and personal organizer functions into one handset. Users can send and receive faxes, short paging messages and e-mail, access the Internet and use such desktop applications as an electronic calender, address book, note pad and calculator.

The 9000i was introduced in October. Other companies licensed to use the GEOS operating system include L.M. Ericsson, NEC Corp., Toshiba Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., Brother International Corp. and Canon Business Machines.
