IRVING, Texas-Nokia Corp. said its dual-mode Nokia 2180 phone that uses Code Division Multiple Access technology is available in the San Diego market.
Developed at Nokia’s research center in San Diego, the 800 MHz phone, which provides up to 210 minutes of talk time and up to 76 hours of standby time, is available at GTE Corp. retail outlets in the San Diego area.
Other features of the Nokia 2180 include a big screen, 30-character liquid crystal display with permanent signal and battery strength indicators, and separate voice mail and text-message-waiting indicators. The phone also supports short message service and caller ID, and has nine one-touch dialing keys.
“Nokia is very excited to be the first company to offer a CDMA digital phone in the San Diego area, the home of research in CDMA technology,” said Rich Geruson, senior vice president of USA sales and marketing at Nokia Mobile Phones Inc.
“The phone’s user interface and large display make digital services easy to use, and the Nokia 2180 is the only CDMA phone on the market that has a full range of car, power and desktop accessories.”
