WARREN, N.J.-Dobson Communications plans to launch more than a dozen digital networks in its Arizona, California and Texas markets, using some $80 million in Lucent Technologies Inc.’s infrastructure equipment, the companies announced.
With Lucent’s wireless systems, Dobson can use the same network architecture to support both Code Division Multiple Access and Time Division Multiple Access technologies.
The platform for both the TDMA and CDMA systems includes a digital switching system made in Oklahoma City and cell site equipment manufactured in Columbus, Ohio. The TDMA platform will be deployed in Texas and California, and the CDMA platform will be deployed in Arizona, Lucent said. The companies expect the first system to be installed early next year in Texas.
