ArrayComm Inc. announced the opening of a liaison office in New Delhi, India, to serve a growing interest in its proprietary IntelliCell processing technology and IntelliWave wireless local loop system. ArrayComm is anticipating the release of a Department of Telecommunications WLL tender in India for an estimated 60,000 lines and is expecting to begin a field trial with the DoT during the first quarter. “There are currently only 1.5 phone lines in India for every 100 residents, compared to the world average of 11, and numerous operators are about to deliver new levels of service,” said John Spiller, ArrayComm’s director of business development.
The government of Israel and Cable & Wireless plc recently announced an agreement allowing Cable & Wireless to increase to 20 percent its ownership in Bezeq, the telecommunications company of Israel. During the first stage, Cable & Wireless will be granted a permit to increase its holding from its current level of 10.02 percent to 13 percent. A second stage offers Cable & Wireless the opportunity to increase its share of the company to 20 percent after a minimum period of 18 months.
BPL-U S West Cellular Ltd., a network operator in India, selected the Tellabs MartisDXX managed transport network solution for its Global System for Mobile communications cellular network, Tellabs announced. The contract was awarded through Motorola India. The MartisDXX system will provide BPL-U S West-distributed public network interconnection and an internal voice and data transmission network. The initial deployment phase is due to be completed this month.
Orange plc, a digital wireless provider in the United Kingdom, announced that it awarded Nokia Telecommunications a contract valued at $391.2 million to supply base station systems for the accelerated rollout of its 1800 MHz Global System for Mobile communications network. The base station systems will include the Nokia base transceiver station, base station controllers and transcoders. Nokia also will supply its compact PrimeSite base stations and network management system, the NMS.
