MUMBAI, India-Tata Lucent Technologies Ltd., a joint venture between Lucent Technologies International Inc. and the Tata Group of India, announced it has been awarded a $325 million contract to supply advanced telecommunications infrastructure equipment to Tata Teleservices Ltd. of India.
Installation of the system will include a fixed wireless network with Code Division Multiple Access wireless base stations, 5ESS switching systems, fiber optic cable, software and network design.
The new network, projected to serve 50,000 subscribers by September, will be one of the world’s first to combine landline and wireless technology, Lucent said, and will improve reliability by reducing outages of communications services due to monsoons and cable cuts.
