American Tower Systems Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of American Radio Systems Corp., announced it has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Washington International Teleport from Midcontinent Media for approximately $30.5 million.
Berliner Communications Inc. announced it has opened regional offices in San Francisco and Atlanta, shortly after its first-ever acquisition of radio frequency engineering firm, Wireless Systems Consulting, as part of its continuing vertical integration strategy. The site acquisition, construction and project management company recently hired Darcy McCormick to head up operations in the San Francisco area, and Tony Pelletier, who joined BCI as a result of the WSC acquisition, will manage the company’s North American sales efforts from his Atlanta-based office.
Phoenix International Inc. recently announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Atlanta-based Intuitive Consultants Inc., has signed an agreement with Nextel Communications Inc. to provide staffing solutions to its Information Technology Division with “preferred vendor” status. The contract represents the opportunity to place 200 new employees with Nextel in fiscal 1998, the company said.
Omnipoint Communications launched its second operational roaming agreement in Turkey with Telsim Mobil Telekomunikasyon Hizmetleri A.S., bringing its number of international roaming destinations to 34. The personal communications services provider has seven domestic roaming partnerships in North America, and the other active agreement in Turkey is with Turkcell. Omnipoint and its global roaming partners employ Global System for Mobile communications technology, which is used by more than 65 million people in 100 countries.
