ERICSSON TO EXPAND GUANGDONG SYSTEM

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson signed a contract valued at $369 million to expand Guangdong Mobile Communications Corp.’s 900 MHz Global System for Mobile communications network, the company announced.

Ericsson said this is the largest contract it has signed in China.

The expansion will be implemented during the first half of the year, allowing GMCC to increase its network subscriber capacity to more than 4 million subscribers, Ericsson said.

“This contract not only continues GMCC’s status as China’s largest mobile operator, but also includes a number of network enhancements designed to assist GMCC in using the available frequency spectrum more efficiently and deriving more revenue from its investment,” said John Gilbertson, president of Ericsson Co. Ltd. in China.

Ericsson is the sole supplier of GSM network infrastructure to GMCC.
