L.A. CELLULAR FIGHTS TELEMARKETING FRAUD

CERRITOS, Calif.-Los Angeles Cellular Telephone Co. said it teamed up with the American Association of Retired Persons, Retired Senior Volunteer Persons and a host of celebrities and local dignitaries to fight telemarketing fraud in Southern California.

L.A. Cellular subsidized this week’s two-day program at the World Trade Center in downtown Los Angeles, which included providing 50 landline and wireless phones, service and operation accommodations.

Volunteers who staffed the phones to inform consumers how to protect themselves from fraudulent telemarketers included actors Ernest Borgnine; Mary Ingles and Shirley Jones; comedian Norm Crosby; and the casts of “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

L.A. Cellular is a California general partnership of AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and BellSouth Cellular Corp.
