CELLULAR ONE REPORTS RESULTS OF PHONE-USAGE SURVEY

Cellular One Group in the United States commissioned a national telephone survey of 600 Cellular One customers who use their phone primarily for business or for business and personal use equally. Cellular One found the following results about how people use their cellular phones:

Respondents said they most often use their cellular phone to keep in touch with co-workers and clients. Subscribers reported placing 33 percent of their calls to co-workers and 29 percent to clients; 32 percent of calls received came from co-workers and 16 percent from clients.

When asked when they most often use their cellular phone, 38 percent of respondents said they use it “at all times;” 22 percent when they are in town but out of the office; 15 percent when they are commuting to and from work; 13 percent when they are out of town on business; 11 percent when they are between meetings or appointments; and 3 percent during lunch.

More than half of the respondents said using their cellular phone for business has given them more personal time. However, 19 percent said they use their phone frequently during personal time to conduct business.

On average, respondents reported spending US$84.88 per month on their cellular-phone bill. More than half (52 percent) said their company either pays for the entire bill or reimburses them for a portion of it. And nearly half (49 percent) of the respondents’ cellular-phone equipment is paid for by their company.

More than half (59 percent) try to lower their bill. The most frequently way mentioned was to “make calls only when necessary.”

85 percent said they use their cellular phone for business travel, spending on average 14 minutes a day on their phone.
