Brightpoint Inc. announced it extended for three years its agreement with Esat Digifone, a Global System for Mobile communications operator based in Dublin, Ireland. Brightpoint supplies Esat fulfillment and distribution services and wireless handsets and accessories from its new Dublin facility, said the company.
The CDMA Development Group announced that cdmaOne, Interim Standard-95 Code Division Multiple Access technology, has continued to capture major markets in Latin America as Brazilian operators Telesp Cellular and Telerj Cellular announced plans to provide cdmaOne service in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
L.M. Ericsson received an order valued at $22 million from the Russian wireless network operator VimpelCom, which is expanding its digital Advanced Mobile Phone Service network in response to growing demand in Moscow and several neighboring regions. VimpelCom, which markets services under the brand name Bee-Line, is the largest wireless operator in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, with more than 110,000 subscribers in its Moscow network, said Ericsson.
L.M. Ericsson also was awarded a $300 million framework agreement from Turkcell GSM to provide new base stations and switching equipment to expand the operator’s Global System for Mobile communications network. Ericsson plans to start delivering and installing the equipment immediately, the company said.
Nokia Telecommunications and its partner Omnilogic Telecommunicaciones Chile S.A. signed a contract to provide Startel-CTC with Nokia’s Actionet trunked mobile radio system. The network will be Chile’s first nationwide commercial trunked radio system based on the worldwide MPT 1327 open standard, said Nokia.
Clearnet Communications Inc., a dispatch radio and personal communications services carrier based in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, sold $209.7 million in 10-year notes May 11 via RBC Dominion Securities Inc. Proceeds of the issue, which received a speculative grade rating of B3 from Moody’s Investors Service, will help repay a vendor credit facility from Lucent Technologies Inc.
