MOTOROLA, AMD TO SHARE TECHNOLOGIES

CHICAGO-Motorola Inc. announced a fairly expansive technology transfer agreement with Advanced Micro Devices Inc., allowing the two to collaborate on making embedded and desktop microprocessors and embedded flash memory.

AMD, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., provides semiconductors to the telecom and computer industries.

Under terms of the seven-year agreement, Motorola will license to AMD its copper interconnect technology and continue to collaborate on developing future logic process technology using the copper interconnects.

For its part, AMD will license to Motorola its flash-memory and networking technology, which Motorola expects will solidify its position in the embedded solutions market.
