LACK OF ACCESSORIES POSES PROBLEM FOR END USER

To the Editor

I wanted to alert you to a lead on problems that some end users face when a manufacturer doesn’t have accessories stocked in place for local service providers.

I bought the new Siemens S12 from my New York City PCS carrier, Omnipoint, at the end of July. No accessories where in stock when the phone came onto the market. Calls to other providers (e.g., Bell South) and suppliers (e.g., CellStar, Brightpoint) around the country are disappointing-nobody has a spare battery, phone case, or port charger in stock for the Siemens S12.

Several calls to the manufacturer’s office in Austin, Texas, and to Omnipoint, my provider, don’t lead to any good news either: Even the manufacturer says that it doesn’t have any accessories in stock right now, despite the phone having come onto the market.

This is bad news for customers, and not a great way to build brand loyalty and/or awareness.

Is my experience unusual?
