APEX, N.C.-Cumulous Communications, based in Fresno, Calif., selected SmartLink Development L.P. to supply and install a new SMRLink trunking and networking system that will cover most of the major corridors on the West Coast, said SmartLink.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The system will be installed in two phases. More than 170 800 MHz channels at 23 sites will be networked during the first phase.
A SiteLink digital multiplexer from SmartLink will replace existing channel bank equipment and be integrated into an existing Cumulous T1 microwave backbone to provide drop-and-insert capabilities for the many voice and data circuits, SmartLink said. Phase I is scheduled to be completed in December.
Phase II consists of adding 450 MHz channels to the 23 Phase I sites, as well as networking more 450 MHz sites into the system. The SMRLink system will provide interconnection between the 450 MHz and 800 MHz frequencies. The entire system will be trunked and networked by SmartLink’s SMRLink Maxi-Switch.
The SMRLink System and Maxi-Switch developed by SmartLink not only will provide all networking and trunking between sites, but also will interface with and initially control about 30 centrally located telephone lines for customer interconnect, the company said.
“SmartLink’s universal trunking and networking system will give our customers far more options than they have presently,” said Ken Gilstrap, sales and marketing manager for Cumulous. “The system will eventually cover most major corridors in the western region of the United States, and will provide dispatch, voice mail and interconnect capabilities for large and small companies alike.”
