SEATTLE-Xypoint Corp. announced it received contracts from Price Communications Wireless Inc. and Cellular One in San Francisco to provide its enhanced 911 solution, which delivers the 10-digit number and general location of wireless emergency callers to public safety answering point operators.
Both carriers will use Xypoint’s Signaling System 7-based ISUP-LENS solution in their mobile switching centers, said Xypoint. ISUP-LENS is a standards-based signaling approach for obtaining the required data from mobile switching center and delivering it to the PSAP.
“Xypoint offers us a turnkey solution for keeping track of cell site information, implementing switch translations and working with the public-safety community to make sure our customers receive quality service,” said Brian Edwards, president of Price Communications Wireless.
“SS7 signaling ensures fast delivery of emergency calls and associated location data,” said Ken Arneson, president and chief executive officer of Xypoint. “Carriers and the public-safety community don’t need to make expensive hardware and software changes to accommodate our solution.”
