NORCROSS, Ga.-Atomic Software Inc. announced it entered into an original equipment
manufacturer agreement with GTE Wireless to provide a GTE-branded version of its Authorizer for Windows
95/98/NT electronic payment software.
Named PC-Retailer, the software will use GTE’s Cellular Digital Packet
Data technology for fast credit-card authorization. Atomic said GTE will bundle and market the software, CDPD
modem and airtime to merchants for a single low monthly cost.
The software also is designed to process debit cards,
purchase cards and check various types of authorizations for merchants who traditionally don’t have access to a phone,
such as those who work at trade shows or make deliveries.
Atomic said using its Authorizer software, transaction
times are usually five to six seconds vs. 12 to 30 using a traditional phone line.
