WILSONVILLE, Ore.-Tektronix Inc. announced an agreement to buy the Network Monitoring
and Mobile Test Systems business of Necsy Network Control Systems S.p.A., based in Padova, Italy, for an
undisclosed amount.
The product line Tektronix acquired includes monitoring systems for measuring voice, data
and fax transmission quality for fixed and mobile networks. Other mobile telecommunications products provided by the
Necsy unit include systems that stress wireless networks from air interfaces to base stations and those that test for
software verification, call load handling, roaming and systems integration for all network
components.
“Europe is a hotbed for telecom research and design right now,” said Rick Wills, president
of Tektronix’ European operations, headquartered in Marlow, United Kingdom.
“This acquisition, in addition
to a communication test equipment group in Berlin, which [we] acquired from Siemens (AG) in 1997, increases [our]
telecom-devoted resources and more than doubles our presence in Italy.”
Necsy is a subsidiary of Italtel, the
Italian telecommunications manufacturer which is a 50/50 joint venture between Telecom Italia and Siemens
AG.
There are about 120 Necsy employees affected by the acquisition, and they all will remain in the existing
facility in Italy, Tektronix said.
