NEW ORLEANS-The Universal Wireless Communications Consortium, which represents the
interests of Time Division Multiple Access technology proponents, demonstrated interoperability between 850 MHz
and 1900 MHz networks at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association Wireless ’99 show in New
Orleans.
Groups of attendees on the show floor at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center used TDMA handsets
provided by Nokia Corp., L.M. Ericsson and Motorola Inc. to migrate among various cell sites.
Spectrum handoffs
were conducted from 850 MHz to 1900 MHz and interoperability was demonstrated among the following vendors:
Compaq, Ericsson, Hughes/Alcatel, Lucent Technologies Inc. and Nortel Networks.
