TELECORP ACQUIRES AT&T PUERTO RICO LICENSE

ARLINGTON, Va.-TeleCorp PCS Inc. acquired AT&T’s Puerto Rico personal communications services license, said the company. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“Wireless growth in Puerto Rico is equal to the U.S., and monthly usage is like that of landline. With our AT&T affiliation and SunCom service offering, we look forward to providing Puerto Ricans with an exceptional wireless choice,” said Gerald T. Vento, chief executive officer of TeleCorp.

The SunCom service combines a digital phone, voice mail, e-mail and pager in one device.

TeleCorp also announced it hired Raul Burgos as vice president and general manager of Puerto Rican operations. Burgos has served with Motorola Inc., AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and, most recently, with Nextel Communications Inc., where he was the general manager and vice president of operations for Nextel International Inc. in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
