WASHINGTON-Based on votes by the American public, the U.S. Postal Service declared the cellular phone the most popular 1990s memory, and will depict the cellular phone on a stamp scheduled to be issued in April 2000, said the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association.
New stamps representing the 1990s are part of the Postal Service’s “Celebrate the Century” stamp and education program honoring important people and events of the past century.
Voting was conducted throughout the month of May and it was open to all Americans, said CTIA. The cell-phone stamp led in overall votes among the 30 topics in five broad categories-lifestyle, people and events, arts and entertainment, sports and science and technology.
