JACKSON, Miss.-SkyTel Communications Inc. reported a second-quarter net income of $6.7 million, or 8 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $9.7 million, or 22 cents per share, for the same period last year.
The company added 40,300 advanced messaging customers during the quarter-including a record-high 36,900 two-way messaging subscribers-to reach a total subscriber figure of 1.48 million.
Operating cash flow was $40.2 million, an increase of 45 percent from the year-ago period.
SkyTel also said it has suggested Sept. 22 as the date for a stockholder vote on the proposed merger with MCI WorldCom Inc.
