ANNAPOLIS, Md.-TeleCommunications Systems Inc. introduced an enhancement to its Mobile Originated Short Message Service solution that allows mobile phone users to send short text messages to Internet Protocol-based applications and devices, said the company.
TCS also announced the addition of zone-based rating capabilities to its Prepaid Wireless Application.
Using the TCS’ enhanced MOSMS solution, mobile users can reply to short messages from business and personal contacts on the Web. The mobile-to-IP messages are delivered by the SMS center directly to the user’s specified e-mail address. Mobile phone users also have the ability to request bank balances, obtain flight information and confirm stock transactions from their mobile phone, said the company.
TCS said the new MOSMS solution addresses the need to send short messages from a subscriber’s handset to an external short message entity supporting queries on a TCP/IP network. The solution conforms to Interim Standard-41 and is available for Code Division Multiple Access and Time Division Multiple Access networks, added the company.
TCS’ PWA enhancement allows service providers to define prepaid rating zones for subscribers to better serve target market niches, such as students and business travelers, with their prepaid offerings. The ratings of mobile-originated and mobile-terminated calls, in home and roaming networks, can be differentiated for different subscribers types, added TCS.
Both TCS’ short message service and prepaid wireless solutions have been developed in conjunction with Lucent Technologies Inc.
Annapolis, Md.-based TCS develops network application software, and provides systems integration solutions for wireless and wireline telecommunications networks.
