ALAMEDA, Calif.-Geoworks Corp. reported a net loss of $994,000, or six cents per share, for the second quarter of fiscal 2000, compared with a loss of $4.6 million, or 29 cents per share, for the same period a year ago.
Revenues were $2.9 million, up 127 percent from the $1.3 million reported for the year-ago comparable quarter.
Dave Grannan, president and chief executive officer, attributed the growth to the company’s newly created Professional Services consulting business, as well as royalty payments and license fees.
Geoworks launched its Mobile Attitude mobile media strategy earlier this fall. The company said it will offer six mobile media channels through the MobileAttitude.com Web site.
Two of these services, an advertising-subsidized discount and promotion service and a customized reminder service, are available. In the coming months, Geoworks said it will introduce a general information service, community-based services and entertainment services, all using the company’s server technology, which is compatible with devices using Wireless Application Protocol, short message service and Global System for Mobile communications technologies.
