BAM to begin Web Access mobile service

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Bell Atlantic Mobile said it plans to introduce its Web Access service this month, designed to allow customers to obtain Internet-based content on their wireless handsets.

The service will be available on Qualcomm 860 Web-enabled phones, which also will be available next week for $120.

The Web Access service is offered for $10 a month on top of current DigitalChoice voice plans, which start at $20 a month.

BAM said it will offer other Web-enabled phones going forward, such as Qualcomm Inc.’s PDQ800 and the Motorola Inc. StarTac 7860.

In addition, the phones can be used as wireless modems for connection to laptop and notebook computers through the service for an additional $80 connection kit.
