WASHINGTON-MCI WorldCom Inc. and Sprint Corp. jointly filed with the Federal Communications Commission an application for approval of their merger.
MCI WorldCom and Sprint announced their agreement to merge last month.
The application includes a brief and several affidavits by company officers and outside experts. It explains the companies’ belief that the merger will be in the public interest because it creates a strong third force to compete with AT&T Corp. and other mega-Bells.
The companies expect the merger to be complete by the second half of next year.
