AT&T affiliate Tritel to launch IPO

NEW YORK-Tritel Inc., a Jackson, Miss.-based personal communications services affiliate of AT&T Wireless Services Inc., plans to go public just in time for Christmas.

Tritel registered Nov. 18 for an initial public offering of 9.375 million shares in a price range of $15-$17 each. Goldman Sachs & Co., New York, is lead underwriter.

The PCS carrier already has launched commercial service in five markets in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee, and it is rolling out service in five more. So far, it has opened 18 company retail stores.

Tritel and two other AT&T Wireless affiliates, Triton PCS and TeleCorp PCS, market their services under the SunCom brand name. TeleCorp raised $184 million Nov. 23 in its IPO.
