DULLES, Va.-The merging of Internet services and wireless communications continued to proliferate with the announcement that America Online Inc. and Casio Computer Co. Ltd. agreed to combine AOL’s e-mail service with Casio’s Casseopeia line of palm-sized personal computers.
The partnership calls for AOL to develop software allowing AOL members to use the Casseopeia line to send and receive e-mail messages. AOL members can download the software directly from AOL at no cost and Casio will distribute the service with the Casseopeia models.
“We are pleased to be working with AOL to help users of the Cassiopeia palm-size PC to be able to send and read their AOL e-mail anywhere, at any time,” said Gary Rado, president of Casio. “Our strategy is to target the mobile needs that arise in personal computers, the Internet and the rapid growth of mobile telecommunications markets and to give the consumer an extra benefit in all of our products.”
Both companies also agreed to work together in the future to develop AOL interactive services and features for Casio consumer electronic devices.
