Nokia to expand VoiceStream network

HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. and VoiceStream Wireless Corp. signed a multi-year supply agreement that will enable VoiceStream to expand its Global System for Mobile communications 1900 network and services, and bring Wireless Application Protocol-based mobile Internet services to consumers.

The system delivery includes the entire range of GSM network equipment, including Nokia’s switching and radio networks that are packet data-enabled. Nokia also will provide wireless handsets to VoiceStream as part of the agreement.

According to Nokia, the agreement is valued at more than $500 million, with deliveries to begin immediately.
