HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. and Globe Telecom, a Philippine telecommunications company, singed an agreement to expand Globe Telecom’s Handyphone service, the company’s Global System for Mobile communications-based Cellular Mobile Telephone System.
Under the agreement, Nokia will supply mobile switching centers, home location registers, short messaging centers, base stations, base station controllers, transmission equipment and network management systems.
The expansion, valued at $170 million, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Nokia also announced an extension of its long-term agreement for the supply of GSM equipment with PTK Centertel Sp., the GSM 900 dual-band operator in Poland.
Nokia will continue to deliver network infrastructure equipment, in addition to a range of customer services covering implementation and technical support, through 2001.
