Western Wireless begins local service in Kansas, Minnesota

BELLEVUE, Wash.-Western Wireless Corp. unveiled a competitive local telephone service in several rural communities in Kansas and Minnesota after receiving Eligible Telecommunications Carriers status for purposes of federal and state universal service support by Minnesota’s Public Utilities Commission and Kansas’ Corporation Commission.

Customers who request local telephone service from Western Wireless will receive a wireless access unit that can be used in the home or outside of the home for $15 per month including unlimited local calling as part of the new service.

Western Wireless said coverage would begin in approximately 20 rural communities in Minnesota and Kansas, with plans to expand its offering to more than 100 communities by the end of the year.
