MINNEAPOLIS-Broadband network equipment supplier ADC Telecommunications Inc. and Australian pay television operator Austar United Communications announced a strategic program to develop and deploy a multichannel multipoint distribution service broadband wireless system.
The deployment, planned for later this year, will include two-way transmission facilities providing high-speed Internet and telephony services with potential to reach more than 60 Australian towns and cities.
ADC said it will supply Austar with complete base station and customer premises equipment for the 2.3 GHz to 2.4 GHz band currently used by Austar for its analog pay TV and its one-way Internet service.
ADC also announced that Canadian wireless cable and data service provider Image Wireless Communications will upgrade its current two-way MMDS system with ADC’s broadband wireless access system, Axity.
Image Wireless currently operates MMDS services reaching more than 95 percent of the population of Saskatchewan and covering more than 300,000 square miles.
